Well, remember... In Warcraft lore, tauren and night elves have co-existed for ages, pretty much. At the very least, the druidic ones. It makes sense to me that they might turn to the night elves, who cherish their lands as much as the tauren do theirs.
Alternately, maybe they're planning to desperately seek an alliance with their darker clan, the Grimtotem. Who knows!
That is very true, hence the Cenarion cirlce and Guardians of hyjal. Also, keep in mind this was before the Grimtotem were hated

I do agree that Teh Glads were raping the lore, but they were at least funny.
